David Utley

Mr. Utley has forty-five years of maritime personal injury litigation and trial experience in California and Federal court venues. He has seen it, heard it and done from both sides of the aisle having represented injured workers for 33 years until 2011, and then maritime employers and their carriers since then in Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, Defense Base Act, Nonappropriated Funds Instrumentalities Act, and California’s Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board claims.

      

Mr. Utley is a graduate of Whittier College and received his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law.  He was a Los Angeles County Superior Court–appointed mediator in personal injury lawsuits from 1999 until 2014 and served upon that Court’s Arbitration and Settlement Conference panels prior to that time.

 

Mr. Utley has been a guest speaker at the 2009 Northwest Longshore Claims Administrators Seminar, 2010 Longshore Claims Association Seminar, 2012 Chartis Defense Base Act Seminar, 2013 Signal/LCA Maritime Conference, 2014 Annual Loyola Longshore Conference, 2016 Advance Consulting Inc. DBA Conference, and 2019 Longshore Claims Association Seminar.  He has earned a Martindale-Hubbell “AV- Preeminent 5.0 out of 5″ Peer Review Rating for over 20 years.  The AV Preeminent rating is the highest peer rating standard given to attorneys who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards by their peers.
